Lawmaker, Chala, seeks answers to cancelation of health workers recruitment exercise

Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament from Chipili Constituency, Paul Chala, has challenged government to explain to expectant applicants, what happened to the money allocated for recruitment exercise.

Government announced the cancelation of the health workers recruitment exercise recently without giving adequate reasons for such a decision, according to Chala.

He said this during a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday.

He emphasized that government owed the expectant applicants who had been waiting to be recruited an explanation and to avoid creating anxiety among them.

“Under the 2023 national budget, Parliament approved an allocation towards the recruitment of health workers and teachers,” Chala recalled.

He insisted that government should tell the nation what it had done with the allocated money so that it can be held accountable for either misallocation or misapplication of funds.

Chala wondered if government had plans to double the number of those to be recruited next year now that it had halted the recruitment exercises for this year.

“We want the government to tell the Zambian people why should the decided to cancel the recruitment of health workers, when we approved the 2023 budget, that component was there so the money is there,” he said.

Chala, tasked government to explain to Zambians whether it would do the same for the recruitment process of teachers who are also expectant.

He emphasized the need for government to share the reasons as to why the process had been cancelled in order to remove the anxiety which had been created among the applicants.
