Model Halwindi, Kazadi, Muzandu to face trial for producing, distributing obscene contents

Police in Lusaka have arrested and charged model Mwaka Halwindi, former Hot FM Chief Executive Officer, David Kazadi, and Ruby Muzandu in connection with the production and circulation of obscene materials.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the arrests follow intelligence-led investigations and digital surveillance conducted by the Cybercrime Unit.

The offenses fall under Section 177 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Charges included:

Mwaka Halwindi: Two (2) counts of Making or Producing Obscene Videos Tending to Corrupt Morals, contrary to Section 177(1)(a).

Ruby Muzandu: One (1) count of Conveying or Exporting Obscene Matters, contrary to Section 177(1)(b).

David Kazadi: Two (2) counts of Producing Obscene Materials, and two (2) counts of Circulating Obscene Materials, contrary to Sections 177(1)(a) and 177(1)(b) respectively.

“These offenses involve the creation, distribution, and transmission of content considered obscene and likely to corrupt public morals,” Hamoonga stated.

He added that the accused are currently in lawful custody and are expected to appear in court soon.

Hamoonga also issued a stern warning to the public, emphasizing that the production and circulation of obscene content are serious crimes that carry severe legal penalties.

“We wish to reaffirm our commitment to upholding law and order, especially in the digital space. We will not relent in bringing offenders to justice,” Hamoonga said.
