National Olympic Committee of Zambia urges continuation of Hockey test series to promote sport

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has emphasized the importance of continuing the Zambia Hockey Test Series to enhance the sport in the country.

The NOCZ noted that hosting the series had brought valuable competition to the federation.

NOCZ Secretary-General, Boniface Kambikambi, highlighted that the federation previously lacked sufficient competition.

Speaking during an interview with Zambia Monitor in Lusaka on Friday, Kambikambi pointed out that the creation of the Zambezi series provided opportunities for local upcoming athletes.

“I saw young girls playing in this tournament and it gives them an opportunity to grow,” Kambikambi stated.

He encouraged the federation to continue organising such series to promote the sport further.

“Part of their plan is to get this rated, so it becomes a graded tournament. That will be good for our Zambian athletes,” he added.

Kambikambi also mentioned that hosting the event offered Zambia a chance to assess the infrastructural improvements needed for hockey.

Meanwhile, Zambia Hockey Association (ZHA) president, Hazel Kennedy, said the participation of other countries in the competition would help the sport grow in Zambia.

She confirmed that the Zambezi Hockey test series would continue and be included in the association’s sports calendar.
