Party leader, Nawakwi, dragged to court over alleged threat on Hatembo family

Opposition party leader, Edith Nawakwi, has been taken to court and charged with four counts of abduction, threatening of violence in connection with the famous Hatembo family.

Nawakwi, Forum for Democracy and Development president, was expected to take plea before Lusaka Magistrate, Ammy Masoja.

It was alleged that Nawakwi threatened to behead Pheluna and Milton Hatembo, if they revealed what she had discussed with them.

Particulars in count one are that between August 31, 2021 and September 1, 2022, while acting with others unknown, with intent to cause injury or harm, threatened to kill Pheluna to which she said “I will kill you by chopping your head if you tell anyone whatever I discuss.”

In count two, it is alleged that during the same period, she threatened to kill Milton to which she said “I will kill you by chopping your head if you tell anyone whatever I discuss”.

In count three and four, allegations are that between the same dates, Nawakwi, jointly and while acting with unknown persons abducted Pheluna and Miltonfrom Choma to Lusaka with intent to cause both to be secretly and wrongly confined against their wishes.
