A Journalist, Thomas Zyambo, has been arrested and charged with sedition, Police say.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said the offence was alleged to have been committed on October 18, 2023 through a Facebook page known as Zambian Whistle blower.

Hamoonga in a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday said Zyambo, aged 50, committed an offence which is Contrary to Section 57 (1) (c) as read with section 60 (1) (e) of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

He stated that Zyambo jointly and whilst acting with others unknown people, did publish an article with seditious intentions.

“Zyambo published that article with a view to raise discontent or disaffection among the people of Zambia,” Hamoonga said.

He added that the accused had been detained in custody.

“Police are waiting for the accused to meet the Police bond conditions for him to be released,” Hamoonga said.
