Police school, Grandview Academy, receives books in commomeration of financial literacy week

The United Bank for Africa (UBA), in its bid to contribute to to youth development, has donated literacy books to Grandview Academy Secondary School in celebration of its financial literacy week.

The academy is a school run by the Zambia Police Service.

Managing Director Chinedu Obeta said the contribution to Grandview Academy was done through the bank’s foundation, Read Africa Initiative.

Obeta said the donation of the books was intended to support government efforts and initiatives to provide recreational activities for youths in order to deter them from engaging in social vices.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Shachifwa Ntalasha, Relationship Manager-Corporate Banking during the donation of the books in Lusaka recently.

“Youths also have a significant impact on economic growth. This is the stage in which organisations like us and the Zambia Police Service can form social ties and shape the personality that defines Zambia’s new generation.

“The negative activities in which youths engage can be addressed by developing good activities in which they can participate, such as the bank’s Read Africa initiative. The initiative ensures that reading materials for youths are available in secondary schools and public libraries,”Obeta said.

He said the aim of financial literacy week was to increase awareness about the importance of making financial decisions in a responsible, educated, and forward-thinking manner.

Speaking at the same event, Zambia Police Headquarters Director of Administration, Biemba Musole, said the books would help learners to improve their research and reading skills outside their classrooms.

Musole said the gesture came at a right time when the school was witnessing an increase in the number of students.
