The Republican Progressive Party (RPP) has called on the government to increase investment in science, technology, and research to develop sustainable, homegrown solutions to Zambia’s health and development challenges.
RPP President, Leslie Chikuse, said such investments, coupled with strategic partnerships, are essential in tackling public health priorities such as HIV, malaria, and related diseases.
Speaking to Zambia Monitor in an interview, Chikuse said the party ewas of the view that local and traditional remedies should be explored through rigorous scientific research to complement existing healthcare interventions.
“The party also emphasizes the importance of not only external support but also local innovation,” he stated.

Chikuse further commended the Chinese government for donating 5,000 HIV rapid testing kits to Zambia and enhancing cooperation in the health sector, describing the gesture as a sign of the enduring value of international partnerships.
He also applauded the government’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption, noting the importance of transparency and accountability in national development.
“We anticipate the outcomes of the final audit report and urge relevant institutions to take timely and decisive action where misuse of resources is uncovered,” Chikuse said.
He stressed that promoting accountability and good governance was key to maintaining public trust and fostering meaningful collaboration with development partners.
