Salah’s goal earns Liverpool a draw against Palace in final game, as team signs off with celebrations

Liverpool enjoyed a day of celebration at Anfield as Mohamed Salah’s late equaliser sealed a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, bringing their Premier League title-winning season to a close on a festive note.

Salah’s 84th-minute strike not only secured the Golden Boot but also matched the Premier League record for goal involvements in a season, finishing with 29 goals and 18 assists.

Arne Slot’s side had already clinched the title with a 5-1 win over Tottenham on April 27, allowing them to approach the final games with little pressure.

In a match reported by the BBC Sports, Palace, fresh off their FA Cup triumph the previous week, had also wrapped up their domestic objectives, setting the stage for a celebratory encounter.

Before kick-off, Palace formed a guard of honour for the champions, and in a classy reciprocation, Liverpool returned the gesture in recognition of Palace’s cup success.

Despite expectations of a routine win for Liverpool, Palace had other ideas. A mistake from Conor Bradley allowed Tyrick Mitchell to set up Ismaila Sarr, who coolly slotted home to give the visitors a first-half lead.

Liverpool pressed for an equaliser but were repeatedly thwarted by a superb performance from goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who notably denied Luis Díaz in a one-on-one.

Liverpool were reduced to 10 men when Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for bringing down Daichi Kamada as the last defender near the halfway line.

Nevertheless, the hosts pushed on and Salah’s close-range finish ensured they avoided a closing-day defeat.
