Suspected mental patient reportedly commits suicide in Zambezi district

Boyd Sakawaya, 45, of Zambezi  district  in North-Western  province  has reportedly  hanged himself on a tree using a soft wire.

According to North Western Province Commanding Officer Dennis Moola, Sakawaya who was suspected  to be mentally retarded committed suicide  by hanging himself on a tree a few meters away from the place where he was taken for prayers.

Moola revealed  in a statement on Thursday that on March 19, 2023 the deceased  was taken to Kasesema Society Church  within  Zambezi district  to seek help for his mental condition.

He narrated that  few days after being taken for prayers, the police received a report that Sakawaya had committed suicide.

The police received a report from Grace Sakawaya 61 of Kalola area that her son had committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree about 250 metres away from the Kasesema Society Church were he was taken for spiritual intervention.

A team of police officers rushed to the scene and found the body hanging on the tree.

Moola said a physical inspection that was done revealed that the body was intact despite having a protruding tongue.

He said  police were not suspecting foul play and the family has been advised to bury.
