The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Serenje has arrested and jointly charged two officers from the Zambia Police Service for alleged corruption involving K9,000.
ACC Acting Head of Corporate Communications Chilufya Chisanga said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday that Chief Inspector Fredian Mabuku, 47, of Chowa Police Camp in Kabwe, and Sergeant Brenda Tampwila, 43, of Mukobeko Road in Kabwe, had been jointly charged with one count of corrupt practices by a public officer under Sections 19(1) and 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 3 of 2012.
According to the ACC, the offences occurred between November 1 and November 30, 2022, in Mkushi District, where the two officers—acting with unknown persons—allegedly solicited and received K9,000 from a Lusaka resident.
“The gratification was offered as an inducement or reward for discontinuing a case of causing death by dangerous driving against a relative of the said resident,” Chisanga said.
The Commission has also separately charged Tampwila with failure to issue a receipt, contrary to Sections 106 and 201 of the Public Finance Management (General) Regulations of 2020.

The charge relates to her alleged failure to provide a receipt for K500 paid by a Lusaka resident in connection with a dangerous driving offence.
Both officers have been released on bond and are expected to appear before the Mkushi Magistrate Court on March 16, 2026.
“The Commission wishes to issue a strong warning to all officers in the Zambia Police Service that engaging in corrupt practices is a serious betrayal of public trust and undermines the integrity of law enforcement,” Chisanga said.
She added that such conduct erodes public confidence, compromises the administration of justice and weakens the rule of law.
Tampwila said police officers were entrusted with upholding the law and that any abuse of authority for personal gain “will not be tolerated”.
“The Commission remains resolute and vigilant, and will relentlessly investigate, arrest and prosecute any officer involved in corruption without fear or favour,” she said.
