Zambia, Belize stress need for expanded bilateral partnership

Zambia and Belize have emphasized the need for expanding bilateral partnership and advancing shared democratic values between the two countries.

The two countries also stressed the need for alignment on strategy ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The call was made when Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Chibamba Kanyama, officially presented his Letters of Credence to the Governor General of Belize, *Dame Froyla Tzalam, formally accrediting him as Zambia’s non-resident High Commissioner to Belize.

The ceremony took place on July 24, 2026 at Belize House, formalizing Kanyama’s extra-accreditation to Belize while he concurrently serves as Zambia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States.

Following the formal ceremony, Kanyama and Tzalam held private bilateral talks centred on bolstering collaboration on matters of mutual interest.

Earlier in the day, Kanyama was welcomed by Ambassador Oscar Arnold, Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, for the presentation of copies of his Letters of Credence.

Discussions with the Chief Executive Officer underscored a long history of friendship and cooperation between Zambia and Belize, including under the framework of the Commonwealth.

In an official communiqué, the Belize Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “Belize looks forward to working closely with High Commissioner Kanyama to further deepen the cordial relations between our two countries.”

The Ministry said the presentation of credentials by Kanyama signals a new chapter of South-South cooperation, climate finance advocacy, and diplomatic solidarity between the two nations.
