Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for Finance and Economic Development, Siazongo Siakalenge, has expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its significant contribution to Zambia’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), noting that over 50 percent of the country’s FDI originated from China.

Siakalenge also disclosed that Zambia’s exports to China between 2022 and 2024 accounted for 20 percent of the country’s total exports.

He made these remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf by Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga during the Hunan Entrepreneurs–China-Africa Economic and Trade Promotion Special Matchmaking Conference, held on the sidelines of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE).

According to a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday by Catherine Kashoti, Second Secretary for Communications at the Zambian Embassy in China, Siakalenge used the opportunity to promote the Kafue Multi-Facility Economic Zone and shared Zambia’s investment experience with Chinese enterprises operating across Africa.

“There is an increasing number of Chinese nationals who have invested in Zambia and are thriving. Zambia is rich in natural resources that require capital and technical expertise to fully exploit,” he noted.

Siakalenge encouraged more Chinese enterprises to invest in Zambia, highlighting the country’s vast opportunities across multiple sectors.

He also commended the Hunan Provincial Government for its continued support in enhancing Zambia’s export drive to China.

“I further wish to commend the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Zambia for the strong bilateral relations shared since Zambia’s independence,” he added.

Siakalenge is accompanying Minister Mulenga at the 4th CAETE in Changsha, Hunan Province, where the minister is expected to hold a series of engagements with companies interested in investing in Zambia.

The Zambian delegation is also scheduled to tour various exhibition stands, including the Zambian pavilion and booths showcasing Zambian entrepreneurs.
