Zambia strengthens regional integration with validation of SADC strategic plan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to regional development and economic diplomacy through the validation of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Resource Mobilisation Strategy Plan.

The national validation workshop, held at Ellesia Executive Lodge in Chilanga, marked a milestone in strengthening Zambia’s engagement with regional integration frameworks.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen, the Director of Development Cooperation and International Organisations, Lubasi Mungandi, said the strategy—developed in December 2024—aligned with Zambia’s foreign policy pillar on economic diplomacy.

He explained that the plan was designed to harness regional partnerships to drive industrialisation, broaden Zambia’s export base, and attract foreign investment, positioning the country for long-term sustainable development.

Mungandi highlighted the importance of collective ownership and strategic alignment across sectors, stressing that stakeholder collaboration is central to the effective implementation of SADC programmes.

“The validation workshop demonstrates Zambia’s proactive role in shaping regional policy and its determination to be a key player in economic transformation within SADC,” he said.

The Ministry also acknowledged the role of the Southern African Institute for Policy and Research (SAIPAR), whose collaboration was pivotal to the process.

SAIPAR Executive Director, Manenga Ndulo, reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to evidence-based policy, noting that the initiative was supported through the Zambia Democratic Governance Project with financial assistance from the Ford Foundation.
