THE Zambia under 17 Men’s National Team will this evening face Botswana in semi-finals that will see them qualify for the TotalEnergies U17 AFCON Algeria to be held in April 2023.

According to a Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) media update,Zambia will be seeking a fourth straight final appearance when they face Botswana in the semi-finals this evening.

Zambia qualified for the U17 AFCON last year which was cancelled by CAF and will be eager to reclaim their slot.

Kick-off at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe is slated for 19h00 Central African Time (CAT) and the match will be live on COSAFA.tv and FIFA+ channels.

There will be a lot at stake this evening apart from securing a spot in the finals of the competition being played under the AUSC Region V Games.

The winner of the Zambia Vs Botswana match will qualify for the TotalEnergies U17 AFCON Algeria to be held in April 2023.

The other AFCON spot will come from either Malawi or South Africa who clash in the other semi-final late in the evening.

FAZ media states that Zambia has been decent at this year’s regional tournament, being the only one to win all their group matches scoring nine goals and conceding only one.

Shadreck Kalyati will likely start ahead of Anthony Matafwali in goal and Coach Ian Bakala will be happy to welcome David Hamansenya in defence and can be partnered with Skipper Aaron Phiri, Aaron Simpasa,Chimuka Lweendo, Sekanji Siame or Victor Simazuwo.

In midfield, Joseph Liteta has been decent and so has Samson Malaya giving the two a head start ahead of Kelvin Phiri, Frederick Ngululu and Stanley Nyamikwe who will fight for the remaining midfield slot.

Upfront, Bakala will be hoping team’s top scorer Emmanuel Mwanza is fit enough to start after he limped off due to a knee injury.

Luketekelo Joram Kapowa and Marcel Zimba are the other strikers available.
