A 36-year-old businessman of Kasalu Village in Lusaka, Cryford Chuuba, has appeared in court accused of swindling Zambia Police Service spokesperson, Rea Hamoonga, out of K159,000 in a suspected cattle scam.
According to court documents, Chuuba is alleged to have falsely claimed—between November and December 8, 2024—that he had dozens of cattle for sale.
Trusting the offer, Hamoonga reportedly paid the full amount, but the livestock was never delivered, and the cattle are now believed to have never existed.

The case has attracted public interest due to the high-profile nature of the complainant.
The matter is set to continue on July 28, 2025, when Hamoonga is expected to testify before Lusaka Magistrate Amy Masoja.
Chuuba has been formally charged and remains on trial as the court seeks to determine the facts surrounding the alleged scam.
