FDD accuses Hichilema of targeting political opponents, says Attorney-General’s submissions in S’African court self-indicting

The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has accused President Hakainde Hichilema and the ruling UPND of allegedly running a criminal cartel to eliminate opponents whom they fear threaten their political survival.

Party spokesperson, Anthony Chibuye, claimed that Hichilema was not preoccupied with developing the country but had spent his presidency fighting opponents like late Edith Nawakwi and former President Lungu.

Chibuye in a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday said the latest reported confession in the South African Court by Attorney-General Mulilo Kabesha on late president Lungu was extremely disturbing.

“This latest confession is not only disturbing to us but has made us ask a lot of questions and confirms our long held suspicion that President Hichilema and the UPND are running a criminal cartel to eliminate opponents whom they fear threatens their political survival,” he said.

He highlighted that Kabesha, in the affidavit filed before court in South Africa reportedly admitted the wilful and intentional mistreatment of the late president Edgar.

“The admission was contrary to the previous admission that government knew about Lungu’s illness way back in 2015 and was in need of constant medical care,” Chibuye said.

He argued that the assertion by the Attorney-General that President Hichilema and his colleagues prevented Lungu from being active politically at both local and international platforms was averse to constitutionalism and democracy.

Chibuye stated that Lungu had every right to choose and exercise his rights of association, consciousness and assembly as guaranteed under the Bill of Rights of the constitution.

“And as a party, we once again ask you our dear country men and women, given the Attorney-General’s admission of government mistreatment of ECL, do you think his family is safe in Zambia,” he said.

Chibuye said Hichilema had allegedly been on rampage to inflict pain and anguish on innocent families under the false guise of fighting corruption.

“Today, the chilangwa, Chitotela, Kambwili, Lusambo, Munir, Kampyongo, Mabonga and many families are crying all because of one man, Hakainde Hichilema, who is abusing state institutions such as the police, DEC , ACC and the Courts to fight his personal battles,” he cited.

Chibuye added that the Zambian people wanted a better administration away from the regime of Lungu but it had turned out to most of them that PF was actually less evil than what they have today under Hichilema.

“It’s true that Hichilema is preoccupied not with developing this country but has spent his presidency so far fighting opponents like Edith Nawakwi and President Lungu which people we believe, their demise has pleased Hichilema so much and confirms his deep hypocrisy,” he alleged.
