The Zambia National Service (ZNS) has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings have commenced against Sergeant Rhodah Njobvu, following the circulation of a sexually explicit video that has sparked widespread public outrage and prompted investigations by both law enforcement and Zambia Athletics (ZA).
ZNS Chief of Public Relations, Brigadier General Mable Nyone, said the command was “deeply disappointed and appalled” by the officer’s conduct, which she noted violated the service’s core values and professional standards.
“ZNS strongly distances itself from such behaviour and views the incident with great seriousness,” Brig-Gen Nyone said in a televised statement monitored from Prime Television on Sunday.
She added that disciplinary action against Sgt. Njobvu was underway and that the outcome would be communicated publicly once internal procedures are concluded.
Brig-Gen Nyone also warned all service personnel that conduct bringing the institution into disrepute would attract firm disciplinary measures.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Police Service launched a parallel investigation into the video, which authorities have described as “immoral and indecent conduct.”
The footage, which allegedly shows Sgt. Njobvu, a track and field athlete and serving ZNS officer, engaging in sexual activity with a female officer from the Zambia Correctional Service, has been widely circulated on social media over the past 48 hours.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, said the video violates Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, which prohibits the production and distribution of obscene content.

“We urge the general public to refrain from circulating or downloading such material. Any person found in breach of the law will be dealt with accordingly,” Hamoonga stated.
He stressed that the act not only contravenes national laws but also offends public morality and decency.
“The Zambia Police remains committed to upholding public morality, enforcing the law, and protecting the dignity of all individuals,” he said.
In a separate development, Zambia Athletics (ZA) formed a three-member investigative committee to verify the authenticity of the video and assess the circumstances surrounding its release.
ZA President, Bernard Bwalya, in a statement issued on Sunday, said the association had noted the viral content and launched its own internal process.
“As an institution founded on the principles of professionalism, discipline, and national pride, we are engaging relevant parties and urge the public to refrain from making speculative or inflammatory remarks while our inquiry is ongoing,” Bwalya said.
