Police open inquiry into Mafinga MP, Chabinga, over alleged threats against Mwamba, Sishuwa

Police in Lusaka have opened an inquiry into allegations of threatening violence by Mafinga Constituency lawmaker, Robert Chabinga, and plan to summon him for questioning.

The investigation follows a report made on July 22, 2025, at 14:00 hours by Chilubi Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament, Mulenga Fube, aged 50, of Plot Number 21330, Chamba Valley in Lusaka.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, urging all parties to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.

According to the report, Chabinga allegedly threatened to “deal with” Zambia’s former Ambassador to Ethiopia, Emmanuel Mwamba and political commentator, Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa, during a live press briefing broadcast on an online platform on July 20, 2025, around 10:00 hours.

Fube reported that the threats, made in response to what Chabinga claimed were defamatory articles circulating about him, amounted to a proposal of violence—an offence under Zambian law.

“This conduct prompted Hon. Fube to lodge a formal complaint at Lusaka Central Police Station,” Hamoonga stated.

“In light of this, the Zambia Police Service wishes to inform the public that Hon. Robert Chabinga will be summoned to assist with investigations as part of the ongoing inquiry,” he added.

Hamoonga reaffirmed the police’s commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring that political discourse remains peaceful, respectful, and within the confines of the law.

“Further updates will be provided as investigations progress,” he said.
