A 69-year-old man has allegedly been killed in a violent domestic dispute involving his wife and her brother in Chingola District, Copperbelt Province.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Pathias Siandenge, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday, identifying the deceased as Edward Kateule, a peasant farmer.
Kateule’s body was discovered on the morning of Monday, August 4, 2025, lying on the floor of a kitchen shelter near an extinguished fire. A community member found the body and alerted Kalilo Police Post.
“Officers who visited the scene found the victim with multiple injuries,” Siandenge stated.
He disclosed that the deceased had sustained a swollen head, a bleeding nose, cuts on the head and right leg, a swollen hip, and multiple burns on his body.

A blood-stained metal bar, approximately one metre long and suspected to have been used in the assault, was recovered near the body.
According to police investigations, the incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 3, following a drunken quarrel between Kateule and his 44-year-old wife, Abigail Namwelu.
The argument allegedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which Namwelu’s brother, identified as Mutale Alex, joined in and assisted his sister in beating the victim.
“Kateule was found dead the following morning. Police have apprehended Namwelu, who is currently in custody, while her brother is on the run,” Siandenge said.
He added that the deceased’s body has been taken to Nchanga North Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. A docket of murder has since been opened, and a manhunt for the co-accused is underway.
