The government has handed over agricultural equipment and livestock reportedly worth K1.3 million to Food Security Pack (FSP) beneficiaries in Isoka District, Muchinga Province.

Officiating at the handover ceremony on Monday, Minister of Community Development and Social Services Doreen Mwamba said the initiative aimed to promote agricultural mechanization in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision of enhancing food security through improved crop yields.

Mwamba, who was accompanied by Isoka Member of Parliament, Marjorie Nakaponda, stressed that achieving food security required the concerted efforts of all stakeholders.

“The government is committed to supporting nutritional needs through interventions such as the acquisition of agricultural equipment,” she said.

Mwamba added that the occasion marked a significant step in rural mechanization and livelihood improvement through programmes such as the Social Cash Transfer, Supporting Women’s Livelihoods, and Village Banking.

The minister expressed satisfaction with improved payback rates under the programme, which had supported community-driven projects aimed at lifting the poor and vulnerable out of intergenerational poverty.

Nakaponda hailed the positive impact of the FSP and urged beneficiaries to remain visionary, focused, and to maximize household incomes while safeguarding the equipment provided.

Similarly, Isoka District Commissioner, Jairo Simbeya, commended the Ministry for empowering communities with life-changing tools.

“It will help end the long distances people previously travelled to access tools such as hammer mills and maize shellers,” Simbeya said.

FSP beneficiaries thanked the government for the support and pledged to maintain repayment commitments to enable the procurement of more equipment, which they said would boost yields and strengthen food and nutritional security.
