Seven people have reportedly perished with five others seriously injured in the Solwezi–Mutanda Road accident in North-Western Province.

North-Western Province Police Commanding Officer, Brighton Siwale, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the accident happened on Monday at around 20:40 hours near Kyansununu School involving a Toyota Noah carrying 12 passengers and a Freightliner truck.

Siwale said seven passengers in the Noah died on the spot, while the remaining five sustained serious injuries and were currently admitted at Solwezi General Hospital.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the Noah first hit a stationary truck before colliding with the oncoming Freightliner,” he said.

“The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Solwezi General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while investigations continue,” he said.
