Last-gasp Muniz strike earns Fulham late point at Brighton

Brighton & Hove Albion were denied a winning start to their Premier League campaign after Rodrigo Muniz struck a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw for Fulham at the American Express Stadium on Saturday.

Matt O’Riley had put the Seagulls ahead from the penalty spot shortly after half-time, confidently dispatching the spot-kick in a match that otherwise lacked clear-cut chances.

According to ESPN, Fulham, who had struggled to test Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen throughout the match, dominated possession in the second half but appeared to be heading for defeat—until Muniz’s clinical low finish deep into stoppage time salvaged a point.

Yankuba Minteh had an early goal disallowed after the ball was judged to have gone out of play in the build-up.

The winger was later at the center of controversy after a heavy challenge on King, which left Fulham’s bench incensed.

Fulham also had penalty appeals waved away when King went down under pressure from Jan Paul van Hecke and Verbruggen, adding to Silva’s frustrations.

Despite controlling much of the first half, Brighton couldn’t capitalize, with Georginio Rutter’s low strike comfortably held by Bernd Leno, and Kaoru Mitoma heading over the bar.

It looked like O’Riley’s spot-kick would be enough to secure all three points for Fabian Hürzeler’s side, but Muniz’s late intervention ensured the points were shared.
