Zaloumis, partner charged in Kabwe murder of 22-year-old

The Zambia Police Service has formally charged Maria Francis Zeleni Zaloumis, 40, of Wonani Farm in Montana, and her partner, 34-year-old Nigerian national, Nathaniel Barthrem, and three others in connection with the alleged murder of 22-year-old Enock Simfukwe Kasengele along the Kabwe–Lusaka Road.

Police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed on Thursday that the arrest and charges came after the conclusion of investigations into the case.

“Following investigations, police today have jointly charged and arrested five suspects for one count of Murder, contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia,” Hamoonga said.

The couple face the charge alongside three others: Daniel Chiluwa, 40, farm manager of Onani Farm No. 5, Montana, 23-year-old Fortune Mwitangati of Nyambe Farm, and 25-year-old Gift Daka of Onani Farm.

All five remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.

Hamoonga emphasized that the Zambia Police Service remained committed to justice, assuring the public: “The Zambia Police Service will continue to pursue justice without fear or favour and ensure that those who commit serious crimes are held accountable.”
