Residents of Kitwe will continue facing water supply challenges as Nkana Water Supply and Sanitation Company has announced that its Bulangililo Water Treatment Plant was operating at only 50 percent capacity.
The persistent shortages have already affected key institutions, with Kitwe Teaching Hospital experiencing erratic supply for about three days before water was briefly restored on Friday, according to hospital authorities.
In a notice issued in Kitwe, the utility company explained that the Bulangililo Water Plant was running at half capacity due to ongoing repair works on the motors.
The company stated that this situation would result in continued water rationing across several parts of the city.
Nkana Water said that residents in Riverside and sections of Parklands would only receive supply between 05:00 hours and 09:00 hours in the morning, and later from 17:00 hours to 20:00 hours in the evening.
In Kwacha, Bulangililo and the remaining parts of Parklands, supply would follow the same schedule. In Chimwemwe, water would be available between 11:00 hours and 15:00 hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, while Mindolo residents would have supply during the same hours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The utility company said it would update customers once the repair works were completed and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
