The Lusaka City Council (LCC), in collaboration with State Police, has demolished 78 illegal structures in a coordinated night-time operation along Kafue Road.

The exercise, which began at 22:00 hours on Saturday, August 30, 2025, and continued into the early hours of Sunday, August 31, 2025, saw the removal of 46 unauthorised mobile money booths and 32 makeshift shelters.

LCC Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, said in a statement issued on Sunday that the operation was part of the Council’s broader strategy to restore order, uphold public safety, and enhance urban security across the capital.

“The structures in question had become known hideouts for criminal elements targeting motorists during night hours, raising serious concerns among commuters and residents,” Mwamba said.

She explained that several enforcement notices were issued to the affected individuals prior to the demolition, with the most recent notices served eight days ago instructing owners to dismantle the structures and remove their merchandise.

“However, failure to comply with these directives necessitated decisive action by the Local Authority,” she added.

Mwamba reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to promoting lawful development and urged members of the public to always seek planning permission and consult the Council before erecting any structures.
