Neelkanth Sarovar Premier Hotel has dragged Lusaka lawyer, Martha Mushipe, to the High Court, demanding US$16,000 in unpaid bills for accommodation and meals supplied to guests of the Africa Food Basket Federation, where she serves as a registered office bearer.

The hotel is seeking an order for immediate payment of the outstanding amount, damages for breach of contract, interest, and legal costs.

In documents filed before the Lusaka High Court by Neelkanth Group of Companies, the hotel stated that the NGO, represented by Mushipe, engaged its services in December 2024 to provide accommodation and meals for three guests.

Initially booked from December 1 to 6, the stay was later extended until December 28, with the federation committing in writing to clear the bill by January 10, 2025.

However, the plaintiff contended that despite invoices being issued and reminders sent, the federation failed to honour the agreement.

A formal demand letter sent on January 26, 2025, was also ignored, prompting the hotel to seek legal redress.

The hotel argued that the default has disrupted its cash flow, affected business operations, and damaged its reputation with clients.
