Police in Lusaka’s Matero area have arrested three women for being in possession of counterfeit K500 notes amounting to K97,500.
Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday.
According to police facts, the matter was reported on September 25, 2025, around 19:00 hours by Kojack Katambo of Matero Compound, who also operates a liquor store in the area.
Katambo reported that while conducting business around 18:30 hours, a female customer identified as Frenchesca Mwansa, aged 32, attempted to buy beer using a counterfeit K500 note.
Upon being searched, Mwansa was found with another fake note amounting to K1,000.
She was immediately apprehended and taken to Matero Police Station for further interviews.
During interrogations, Mwansa led officers to another suspect, Margret Mukuka, aged 34, of Emmasdale, who was found in possession of counterfeit K2,000 in K500 notes.
Further investigations led to the apprehension of Beatrice Mulukutila, aged 46, of Matero North.
