Former President Edgar Lungu’s family lawyer, Makebi Zulu, has called for respect for the Constitution and fidelity to justice as central to shaping Zambia’s future.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on 23 October 2025, Zulu emphasized the need for a strong foundation of laws and principles to guide national development and progress.

“As Zambia continues to redefine its future, I stand guided by one enduring conviction: that the strength of our Republic rests on respect for the Constitution and fidelity to justice,” he wrote.

Drawing on his experience as a Member of Parliament for Malambo and Provincial Minister for Eastern Province, as well as his professional work as a constitutional lawyer, Zulu stressed his duty to safeguard the rule of law, defend institutions, and promote accountable leadership.

“Our nation’s journey demands sober reflection and responsible voices. I believe that leadership must first heal and then build; it must restore faith in governance, protect citizens’ rights, and open opportunity for every community,” he said.

Zulu also announced plans to engage citizens, students, faith leaders, and professionals in an open dialogue in the coming weeks about the Zambia they wish to shape beyond 2026.

He emphasized that the conversation would focus on principles, discipline in public office, equitable economic growth, and unity under the law, rather than partisanship.

He said, “We must begin this conversation with clarity of purpose, civility in tone, and hope in our collective capacity to build a nation that truly serves its people.”
