Rogers brace fires Aston Villa to dramatic 2–1 win over Leeds

Aston Villa overcame a frantic second half and a disallowed Leeds equaliser to claim a hard-fought 2–1 victory at Elland Road on Matchday 12 of the Premier League, with Morgan Rogers scoring twice to lift Unai Emery’s men to fourth place on 21 points.

Leeds United entered halftime with a 1–0 advantage after Lukas Nmecha struck early, punishing Villa’s sluggish start.

According to Vavel.com, the hosts threatened repeatedly, with Brenden Aaronson and Gabriel Gudmundsson causing problems whenever Leeds broke forward. Emiliano Martínez, shaky early on, grew into the match and pulled off several crucial stops to keep Villa within reach.

Aston Villa emerged from the break transformed. Within seconds of the restart, Morgan Rogers fired home to level the match, signalling an intense second half ahead.

The momentum swung sharply, helped by Emery’s substitutions as Donyell Malen and Ian Maatsen injected fresh energy into the midfield and attack.

Leeds thought they had restored their lead when the ball ended up in the back of the net, but VAR ruled the goal out for a handball in the buildup—triggering frustration across Elland Road and relief on the Villa bench.

The drama escalated moments later when Daniel Jaimes scored to legitimately pull Leeds level, sending the home crowd into a frenzy. But the joy was short-lived.

Rogers struck again in the 75th minute, finishing a sweeping Villa move to restore the visitors’ lead and complete his brace.

Six minutes of stoppage time produced relentless pressure from the home side, but Villa held firm with two tight defensive lines and disciplined pressing to close out the match.
