Uganda’s Military Chief, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has denied allegations that soldiers assaulted Barbara Kyagulanyi, the wife of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, during a raid on their home.
Bobi Wine, who is currently in hiding, alleged on Saturday that armed military officers raided his residence, held his wife at gunpoint, assaulted her, and confiscated documents and electronic devices.
He further claimed that the home remained surrounded by military personnel, according to a report by BBC.
Speaking from her hospital bed, Barbara Kyagulanyi said officers had demanded to know her husband’s whereabouts and assaulted her when she refused to cooperate.

The incident follows the recent landslide victory of long-serving President Yoweri Museveni, Kainerugaba’s father, in the January 15 elections.
Bobi Wine rejected the results, alleging widespread electoral fraud.
On Monday, Gen. Kainerugaba dismissed the allegations in a post on X, stating that his soldiers did not assault Barbara Kyagulanyi.
“My soldiers did not beat up Barbie [Bobi Wine’s] wife,” he wrote. “First of all, we do not beat up women.
They are not worth our time. We are looking for her cowardly husband, not her.”
Since President Museveni was declared the winner of the election, the military chief has publicly demanded Bobi Wine’s surrender and has issued threats against him.
Bobi Wine said on Monday that Gen. Kainerugaba was still searching for him and continued to issue threats.
He thanked supporters for keeping him safe, adding that his wife was recovering from both physical and psychological trauma.
He also reiterated that their home remained under military siege.
Barbara Kyagulanyi recounted that dozens of men, some wearing military uniforms, forcefully entered her home and assaulted her.
She said one officer hit her in the face, tearing her lip, while another lifted her by the waistband of her trousers as she was being choked.
She further alleged that an officer pulled off her blouse, leaving her partially undressed, and dragged her by the hair before striking her again.
She said she later lost consciousness following the ordeal.
According to Bobi Wine, his wife was rushed to hospital after the incident, suffering from both physical injuries and severe trauma.
