Government has expressed concern over irresponsible and misleading content circulating on social media platforms in which some individuals are calling for the expansion of the Zambian map to include parts of Angola.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Principal Public Relations Officer, Eva Chanda, said such insinuations were unacceptable, reckless, and inconsistent with Zambia’s foreign policy, national values, and established international norms.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, Chanda said government distances itself entirely from the post and from any individuals or groups propagating it.
“Zambia is a peace-loving nation that upholds and respects the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and internationally recognised boundaries of all States,” she said.
Chanda stressed that any acts or suggestions that undermined these principles were undesirable, dangerous, and capable of straining relations with neighbouring countries.
She cautioned social media users and content creators against promoting inflammatory narratives relating to territorial boundaries.
“The Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Angola share long-standing bonds of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect, anchored in shared history, regional solidarity, and a common commitment to peace, stability, and development within the region,” Chanda said.
She added that the Ministry remained committed to maintaining good neighbourliness and fostering mutually beneficial relations with all countries for the benefit of the Zambian people.
