DPP leader, Mubanga, says church has been silenced, declares support for Tonse Alliance

Development People’s Party (DPP) President, Dr. Kafula Mubanga, has raised concerns over what he described as the growing marginalization of the church in government affairs, saying it was time to restore its influence and rightful place in national governance.

Speaking during a service at Gospel Impact Liberty Church in Lusaka’s Kabanana area, Mubanga said the church had been sidelined, persecuted, and left without a meaningful platform in national policy discussions.

“The voice of the church has been misplaced. The church has no place, the church has no voice, and the church is not on the government agenda,” Mubanga said.

He argued that the church was no longer adequately represented in governance structures and accused the government of failing to engage religious institutions on matters of national importance.

Reflecting on his past role as Copperbelt Media Director appointed by the late President Edgar Lungu, Mubanga said his work then focused on fostering harmony between the media and the church.

He stated that this appointment marked a turning point in his career and reinforced his passion for serving communities.

Mubanga also revealed that the DPP had formally aligned itself with the Tonse Alliance, endorsing Mporokoso Constituency MP Brian Mundubile as its presidential flag bearer.

He described Mundubile as a God-fearing leader capable of restoring dignity and influence to the church.

“As an alliance, if we are elected, we will ensure that we restore the voice of the church,” he said.

He urged Zambians to support the alliance’s vision, especially as the country headed toward the 2026 general elections, adding that the church’s voice remained essential for moral governance and responsible decision-making.
