A miner has died at Mimbula Minerals Limited in Chingola while working underground, the company said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred during routine operations at Conveyor Belt 20, when Process Plant Operator, Eddie Nfunda, was assisting with unblocking choked material.
A metal plate detached from the feeder and struck Nfunda on the neck, causing fatal injuries, according to Public Relations and Corporate Affairs Officer, Ian Chomba.
This marks the sixth mining accident in Zambia in the past month, following incidents at Mopani Copper Mine in Kitwe and Mufulira and Lubambe Copper Mine in Chililabombwe.

Chomba said the company immediately suspended operations in the affected area, secured the site for a full investigation, notified relevant authorities, and engaged emergency response and occupational safety teams to review procedures.
He added that the company was committed to identifying the root cause of the incident and taking steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
