The Christian Coalition Zambia (CCZ) on Monday urged spiritual leaders across faiths, especially Christian clergy, to stop promoting superstition in sermons, counselling and public discourse.
CCZ President Clergy Chombela also commended Hakainde Hichilema for directing law-enforcement agencies to swiftly arrest those responsible for the killing of a woman in Kalumbila.
In a statement issued in Lusaka, Chombela said teachings that incited fear, fueled witchcraft accusations or encouraged vigilante “justice” endangered lives and undermined the gospel and the country’s national values.
“To the public: if you encounter suspicious activity, report it to the Zambia Police Service or other lawful authorities. This decisive response affirms the sanctity of life and the rule of law,” he said.

Chombela welcomed the decision by traditional leaders to suspend operations at Kisasa/Kisale Market as investigations continued, saying coordinated action by state and traditional authorities was helping stabilise affected communities.
“CCZ calls on all well-meaning Zambians to unequivocally condemn the killing of innocent people on the basis of suspicion or rumour. No grievance justifies mob action,” he said.
He urged members of the public not to take the law into their own hands, but to allow police to investigate and the courts to adjudicate.
Chombela further called on law-enforcement agencies to pursue the case with professionalism and without interference to ensure perpetrators were brought to justice.
“Our prayers are with the bereaved family and the Kalumbila community. May justice be done, and may peace prevail,” he said.
