Iran says ships can transit Hormuz as Trump hints at possible thawing of tensions

0

Iran’s Mission to the United Nations says “non-hostile vessels” may pass through the Strait of Hormuz provided they coordinate with “the competent Iranian authorities,” reaffirming control over a maritime route vital to global shipping.

US President Donald Trump has meanwhile insisted that talks between Washington and Tehran are ongoing, claiming Iran gave the United States “a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money” on Tuesday.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the US has handed Iran a 15-point peace proposal, which reportedly includes dismantling nuclear facilities in exchange for sanctions relief.

At the same time, the Pentagon is preparing to deploy some troops to Iran, according to CBS News, though it is not clear where or when such a deployment would occur. The White House has not commented.

Regional tensions remain high, with Israel and Iran continuing to exchange strikes. State media in Lebanon reports that six people have been killed in the country’s south.

Oil prices dipped slightly early Wednesday but remain well above pre-war levels.
