The Zambia Police Service in Chisamba District, Central Province, says it has recorded a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on March 27, 2026, around 16:30 hours near Marula Farms on the Chipembi Road, resulting in the death of an unidentified Ethiopian national.

Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, said the accident happened when the driver, Chanda Kalale, aged 27, lost control of his Toyota Hilux, registration number CAH 381.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Saturday, Chilabi said the vehicle overturned, leading to the death of one passenger, believed to be an Ethiopian national aged between 30 and 35 years.

“The vehicle was carrying fourteen (14) suspected illegal immigrants, all believed to be Ethiopian nationals. The injured passengers are receiving treatment at Chisamba Rural Health Centre,” he said.

The driver sustained multiple head injuries.

Chilabi said the body of the deceased has been taken to the Chisamba Rural Health Centre mortuary, awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

Kalale is yet to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the Department of Immigration has been engaged in joint investigative efforts for potential additional charges,” Chilabi said.
