President Hakainde Hichilema has assured the nation that Zambia would remain peaceful, orderly, and secure as the official campaign period begins.
Hichilema said democracy required robust debate and the free exchange of ideas, but warned that any action threatening peace, unity, public order, or national security will not be tolerated.
The Head of State said this through a Facebook post on May 18, 2026 ahead of the August 13, general elections.
He warned the law would be applied firmly, fairly, and without favour to all, regardless of political affiliation or social standing.
“Any individual or group found wanting by the law, from whatever political persuasion, including members of our own party, will be on their own,” President Hichilema said.
He directed all law enforcement agencies to remain on high alert to ensure a peaceful environment before, during, and after the elections.
“Law-abiding citizens are assured of the State’s full protection throughout the entire electoral process,” President Hichilema concluded.
Zambia goes to the polls on August 13 this year with 30 Presidential candidates having shown interest through paying the nomination fees for the top job.
