Guinea-Bissau reaffirms its support for the Moroccan Sahara

In Rabat, Guinea-Bissau reiterated on Tuesday 19 May 2026 its unwavering support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom over its entire territory, including the Moroccan Sahara region, as well as its support for the Autonomy Initiative, the only credible and realistic solution to this regional dispute.

This position was expressed by the Foreign Minister of the West African country, João Bernardo Vieira, during a statement to the press after a meeting in Rabat with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.

He also reaffirmed support for the Moroccan Initiative for Autonomy, considering it the only credible and realistic solution to this regional dispute.

The head of the Guinea-Bissau diplomacy also noted with great satisfaction and welcomed the historic adoption, on 31 October 2025, by the Security Council of resolution 2797, which enshrines, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the only serious, credible and lasting basis to achieve a political solution to the artificial dispute around the Sahara.
