Zambia reaffirms its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity

The Republic of Zambia reaffirmed, on Thursday, 7 May 2026, its “firm and constant” position in favour of the territorial integrity and morocanity of the Sahara.

It also welcomed the historic adoption on 31 October 2025 by the United Nations Security Council of resolution 2797, which enshrines in the framework of Moroccan sovereignty the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco as the only serious, credible and lasting basis to achieve a political solution to the artificial dispute around the Sahara.

This position was expressed in a joint statement issued in Rabat, following the talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Zambia, Mulambo Haimbe, on a working visit to Morocco.

Mulambo Haimbe also expressed his country’s support for the efforts of the United Nations to reach a settlement of this regional dispute, as well as the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, considering it as the only credible, serious and realistic solution for the settlement of this issue.

He also stressed that this initiative provides a pragmatic and constructive basis for achieving a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution.
