The Electoral Commission of Zambia has lifted the suspension of all political campaign activities in Mazabuka Central Constituency, effective immediately, ending weeks of restricted political mobilisation in the area.
The Commission announced the decision following a review of the prevailing situation conducted in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
According to the statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, the review confirmed that conditions required for peaceful political activity have been restored.
“The review has confirmed that the conditions and measures required to ensure a peaceful, secure, and conducive campaign environment have been fully met,” the ECZ stated, citing assessments by security agencies and local authorities.
Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the Commission was now satisfied that campaigns can proceed within the law.
“The Commission is therefore satisfied that campaign activities can resume in accordance with the Electoral Process Act and the Electoral Code of Conduct,” Kasaro stated.
He said the suspension was initially imposed to curb political tensions and prevent violence ahead of the parliamentary by-election.
With the ban lifted, political parties and candidates are expected to resume rallies, door-to-door campaigns, and public meetings.

The ECZ urged all actors to maintain order as the campaign period continues.
“The Commission urges all political parties, candidates, their supporters, and the general public to continue conducting themselves peacefully and responsibly and to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Code of Conduct,” Kasaro said.
The Commission suspended all political campaign activities in Mazabuka Central Constituency, citing unstable security situation in the area.
“The Commission further acknowledges the action taken by the Zambia Police Service to suspend public gatherings in the interest of maintaining a secure and conducive environment for all citizens and electoral stakeholders,” he said.
In addition to the suspension in Mazabuka Central, the Commission strongly condemned incidents of violence in Kabwe Central and Chawama Constituencies in Kabwe and Lusaka Districts respectively.
