A 31-year-old Livingstone man has been sentenced to two years and nine months’ imprisonment with hard labour for aiding the illegal exit of seven Somali nationals from Zambia into Zimbabwe.
Greyson Mabessu, of Libuyu Compound in Livingstone, was convicted by the Livingstone Magistrate’s Court on June 30, 2026, for aiding and abetting prohibited immigrants, contrary to Sections 46(1)(a) and 46(2) of the Immigration and Deportation Act, Chapter 123 of the Laws of Zambia.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Department of Immigration Chief Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, Mabessu was arrested by immigration officers from Victoria Falls Border Control on January 21, 2026, during routine patrols near the Victoria Falls ZESCO Market.

“The officers intercepted Mabessu as he attempted to facilitate the illegal departure of seven Somali nationals, aged between 19 and 27 years, through the railway line into Zimbabwe,” Nshinka said.
He said Mabessu was using a Toyota Corolla, registration number ALC 9989, to transport the prohibited immigrants at the time of his arrest.
Following the conviction, the court ordered that the vehicle be forfeited to the State. The court also sentenced Mabessu to two years and nine months’ imprisonment with hard labour, with the sentence taking effect from January 21, 2026, the date of his arrest.
