Police in Lusaka have reportedly arrested National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity, NRPUP, and Tonse Alliance Deputy Secretary General for Voter Protection, Kennedy Kamba, at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

NRPUP Chief Presidential Advisor and Tonse Alliance Secretary General, Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba, said Kamba was arrested on Monday for unknown reasons when he went to pick up his daughter.

“Mr. Kennedy Kamba, NRPUP and Tonse Alliance Deputy Secretary General for Voter Protection has been arrested by police at the airport for unknown reasons when he went to pick up his daughter,” Zimba stated in a statement issued in Lusaka.

Zimba said the party’s lawyers have been activated to follow up and understand the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

He added that in his official capacity, Kamba had been mobilizing and coordinating countrywide alliance teams at all levels for Presidential Polling Agents and Physical Voter Protection Units.

The NRPUP Chief Presidential Advisor further stated that Kamba was a key member of the 5-member NRPUP team accredited to receive and inspect ballot papers at the airport at 05:00 hours on Tuesday and at the ECZ warehouse in Silverest.

“Consequently, we as NRPUP and Tonse Pamodzi Alliance vehemently condemn his political arrest and demand his immediate release from police custody,” Zimba said.
