President Hakainde Hichilema has thanked Zambians for re-electing him, saying the vote is a mandate to deliver development across the country in his second term.
The Head of State addressed the nation following the declaration of results by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, in which he polled 2,965,326 votes against NRPUP’s Brian Mundubile who obtained 1,856,217 votes.
In a Facebook post on August 18, 2026, President Hichilema said the election outcome reflected Zambia’s democratic values.
“This election showed the world who we are: a nation of peace, a nation of law and order, a democratic nation that settles our differences at the ballot box, and nowhere else,” he said
The Head of State said during the campaign his team visited all 116 districts and interacted with citizens in cities, compounds, villages and farms.
Hichilema stated that the tour exposed the challenges facing ordinary Zambians.
He also extended an olive branch to those who voted for the opposition and assured them that government would work to ensure all citizens benefit from national development programmes.
On his priorities, President Hichilema said his administration would intensify efforts to improve livelihoods.
“Now we must work harder than ever before to deliver meaningful development for every single Zambian, in every corner of our country,” he said.
He said the memories of children met during the campaign would guide policy direction, and that government was committed to building a better Zambia for future generations.
President Hichilema emphasized unity as central to national progress, calling for cooperation among all citizens regardless of political affiliation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peace and prosperity. “After a hard-fought campaign, the people have spoken and we now turn our focus to building even greater peace and prosperity, and we remain One Zambia, One Nation, One people.”
Hichilema signed off the address as President of the Republic of Zambia, pledging to serve as “your servant, once more” and to devote all energies to development and progress.
