National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) Presidential candidate, Brian Mundubile, has told broadcaster Martine Dennis on her YouTube podcast ‘AfricaHereAndNow’ that he has been reliably informed that former Transport Minister, Kafwaya Mutotwe and his bodyguard, Richard Banda, died during a raid at his Kabulonga home.
Mundubile alleged that the incident occurred days after the general election and involved between 70 and 80 army officers who forced entry into the residence.
He alleged that the officers broke down the gate, doors and windows before opening fire inside the house.
The opposition leader said he was present during the attack and witnessed part of what transpired.
“I saw them shoot my friend twice. They located where I was and fired in my direction two times. Missed actually, part of my hair was scraped off,” Mundubile told Dennis.
He further stated that he had since received information confirming the death of two people close to him during the raid.
“I’m reliably informed that he has died. My bodyguard too, Richard Banda, I thought he has also died,” Mundubile said.
He also listed several associates he said remained missing, including party presidential Spokesperson, George Chisanga, Patrick Mwansa, his nephew, Francis Mulenga, and his driver Moses Mutambo.
Mundbile accused the government of initially denying that the attack took place until evidence was presented to the public.
“The government has remained mute, they actually were saying there was no attack at all until we took cameras there,” Mundubile said.
The NRPUP leader said diplomatic missions and election observer groups had since visited the scene of the alleged raid in Kabulonga.
He linked the timing of the incident to concerns he had raised about the presidential election process, particularly the handling of GEN 20 forms.
Similary, Mundubile in a post on his Facebook on August 17, 2026, rejected allegations coming from Government that senior NRPUP members were arrested alongside a foreign militia linked to illegal military training camps.
“I categorically reject these allegations. NRPUP has no militia. We do not support violence, nor do we support any attempt to overthrow the constitutional order of our country,” he said.
He said the allegations were grave with serious consequences for those named and for the country as a whole.
Mundubile called on Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, to withdraw the allegations immediately.
“f there are individuals accused of breaking the law, let them face the law and let the evidence be tested through due process.Political allegations must never be allowed to become a substitute for evidence,” he said.
