Social media erupted with humour on Saturday after provisional presidential results showed President Hakainde Hichilema extending his lead over his closest challenger, Brian Mundubile, to 120,639 votes as the Electoral Commission of Zambia continued announcing constituency results.

The widening gap quickly became the subject of memes and jokes, with many Facebook users poking fun at the growing margin while eagerly following the ongoing vote tally.

One user, Siwale Arnold, quipped that “Zambia voted according to the number of hair someone has,” prompting laughing reactions from thousands of users.

Another commenter, Chrisford Daniels, joked: “This simply means HH leads by 120,639 while MB has 0,” a remark that was echoed repeatedly by other social media users.

Mulyata Nyika humorously referred to a “disciplinary committee at a high level” before reposting the latest presidential figures, while Felix Chikota predicted that political commentator Kasonde Mwenda would soon urge supporters to remain calm as the lead continued to widen.

Harriety Siamanchenya joined the trend, writing: “Everyone will get votes according to the number of hair in their head.”

The jokes continued with Maureen Dauzen saying, “I told you this battle is for those that have fully hair,” while Nevers Hatembo sarcastically described the contest as “HH 120,639… BM8 00, this life no balance.”

Another Facebook user, identified as Blessings, wrote, “We’re now at 120,639 in case mathematics is an issue,” as others joked that Mundubile’s tally was effectively “zero” when compared to the size of the lead.

Semmy Kasusu also joined the online banter, joking: “The maths is; in 70 constituencies HH has 120,639 while BM has 0.”

The reactions highlighted the light-hearted side of an otherwise tense election period, with many Zambians turning to humour and memes as they waited for the Electoral Commission of Zambia to continue releasing official presidential results.

Meanwhile, the ECZ has urged the public and political players to remain patient and await the official declaration of the final outcome.
