Hull City hold Chelsea 2-2 at Stamford Bridge to go third

Hull City held free-scoring Chelsea to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge to climb to third in the Premier League, as Liverpool were also frustrated in a 0-0 draw at home to Fulham on Saturday.

It was a familiar story for Chelsea under Xabi Alonso. The front three of Morgan Rogers, Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer dazzled going forward, but defensive frailties cost the Blues again.

According to Super Sport, in five games against top-flight opposition since Alonso took charge, Chelsea have scored 16 times and conceded 12.

Hull were the last Premier League side to concede a goal this season, but after three straight clean sheets they were breached early. Rogers drilled in at the near post on seven minutes to give Chelsea the lead.

The visitors hit back through Mohamed Belloumi. The Algerian took advantage of slack Chelsea defending to blast home on the volley after Jorrel Hato was caught under a cross to the back post.

Belloumi then put Hull in front with a deflected strike after goalkeeper Emi Martinez failed to deal with a corner.

Chelsea levelled just after the hour mark when Pedro drilled home a Palmer cross into the top corner.

Despite pressure late on, the home side could not find a winner.

The point sees Hull’s Premier League return continue in style. Only defending champions Arsenal and Manchester City sit above them in the table.

Meanwhile, Liverpool dropped points in their goalless draw with Fulham, failing to capitalize at the top.
