The Lusaka Provincial Administration has announced the completion of wetland inputs distribution across all six districts in the province, as part of government’s efforts to boost food security.
Logic Lukwanda, Principal Public Relations Officer at Lusaka Provincial Administration, said the intervention targeted dry-season and year-round cultivation to mitigate the effects of droughts and erratic rainfall.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, Lukwanda said a total of 5,710 vulnerable but viable farming households in Lusaka Province had benefited from the package.
“Chongwe District recorded the highest number with 1,210 beneficiaries, while Lusaka District had 500. Chilanga, Rufunsa, Kafue, and Luangwa districts each recorded 1,000 beneficiaries,” he said.
Lukwanda said the input package distributed included Compound D and UREA fertilizer, White Hybrid Maize seed in both early and medium maturing varieties.

Additionally, maize hybrid seed fortified with Vitamin A, and assorted vegetable seeds such as red onion, okra, rape, cabbage, butternut, tomato, eggplant and farmers also received bactericide, insecticide, fungicide and agricultural lime.
“The Core Objective of the Wetland inputs intervention is to Mitigate droughts and erratic rainfall by utilizing dambos, rivers, and wetlands for continuous food production across the country,” he said.
Lukwanda said the distribution aligned with the national target of reaching 120,000 vulnerable but viable farming households for wetland cultivation under the government programme.
He also commended the Department of Community Development under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services for being steadfast in implementing the programme.
