African women in technology are set to get an opportunity to turn their coding and technical skills into income-generating products under the Apify × SCA BuildHer Hackathon 2026.
The hybrid programme, launched by She Code Africa and Apify, will challenge participants to develop technology solutions targeting real-world problems across the continent.
Held under the theme “Ship and Earn Africa,” the hackathon will give participants practical experience in developing and publishing Apify Actors, including web-scraping and automation tools, on the Apify Store.
She Code Africa Founder and Executive Director, Ada Nduka Oyom, said the initiative was intended to help women move beyond access to technology and develop solutions capable of creating economic value, reports Techcabal.

“At She Code Africa, we want women to have more than access to technology; we want them to have the opportunity to build with it, solve problems that matter to their communities and create economic value from what they build,” Ms Oyom said.
She said the partnership with Apify would provide women developers with an opportunity to build, publish and monetise their own tools while addressing challenges across the continent.
Participants will develop solutions in areas including agricultural intelligence, education, financial data, cybersecurity, employment, healthcare, legal access, travel, small-business intelligence and data technology.
Potential applications include monitoring agricultural prices across Nigerian markets, aggregating scholarship opportunities for African students, tracking remote jobs for African developers and converting fragmented public datasets into useful APIs and data products.
The programme targets women developers and engineers, artificial intelligence builders, indie hackers and product developers, as well as students and early-career developers with the skills to build and deploy working technical projects.
Participants will receive free Apify accounts, platform credits, access to the Apify Software Development Kit and learning resources through Apify Academy, alongside technical support from the company’s Developer Relations team.
Apify Senior Developer Community Manager Saurav Jain said the programme would provide a pathway for African women developers to turn prototypes into products with users and potential income.
“The best thing about the Apify community is that anyone can build a tool, publish it, and start earning from it the same week,” Mr Jain said.
He said the company was looking forward to supporting participants from onboarding through Demo Day and beyond.
