President Hakainde Hichilema has written to Parliament seeking approval to realign Government Ministries as a measure to enhance the efficiency of Government.
According to the release issued by Chief Communications Specialist, Clayson Hamasaka, in Lusaka on Monday, the President’s action was pursuant to Article 92(2)(d) of the Republican Constitution.
The Constitution mandates the President to seek parliamentary approval for the establishment, merger and dissolution of Government Ministries.

The Presidency said the reorganization was aimed at improving public sector service delivery for the benefit of the Zambian people.
“This measure is designed to enhance efficiency and ensure Government is better positioned to deliver services to citizens,” he said.
President Hichilema has therefore called on Members of Parliament to support the realignment, which he said was in the best interest of the country.
“The President has called on Members of Parliament to support the realignment, which is in the best interest of the country,” Hamasaka stated.
He said the proposed realignment was expected to be debated in the coming sittings of Parliament after the Vice President moves the motion.
Hamasaka said once approved, the new ministerial structure would align Government operations with the administration’s economic transformation and job creation priorities under the Grow Zambia Agenda.
