Two Zambia Army female soldiers have sustained serious injuries after being hit by a motor vehicle at the Apollo Military Camp gate in Lusaka.
The accident occurred on October, 26 2026 around 17:30 hours along Kenneth Kaunda Street within Apollo Military Camp, police have confirmed.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, Police Spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha said the accident involved a Toyota Wish, registration number CAG 3041, driven by Warrant Officer Class 1 Christopher Peter Phiri, aged 52, of Apollo Military Camp.
Kaitisha said the vehicle was travelling from west to east when the driver allegedly failed to keep to his near-side lane, resulting in the vehicle hitting the two sentries who were on guard duty at the gate.
“The driver escaped unhurt. However, the vehicle sustained damage, including a cracked front windscreen, a broken left headlamp and scratches to the left side of the front bumper,” she said.

Kaitisha identified the injured as Private Jacqueline Munkombwe, aged 27, who sustained multiple bodily injuries and Private Evelyn Chitambaika, aged 27, who sustained injuries to her left arm and general body pains.
Both have been admitted to Maina Soko Military Hospital and preliminary investigations indicate the driver failed to keep to his lane.
“The motor vehicle has been impounded and is currently parked at Bob Bromes Police Post pending re-examination by the Road Transport and Safety Agency,” she said.
Kaitisha disclosed that the driver has been arrested and charged with Dangerous Driving contrary to Section 155(1) of Act No. 11 of 2002 of the Roads and Road Traffic Act.
“He is currently detained in Police Custody awaiting court appearance,” she said.
